USF Track and Field looks to continue to build momentum in last meet before AAC Championships

Tampa, Fla., Feb. 8, 2024 – The University of South Florida track and field team travels to Chicago, Ill. for the two-day Windy City Invitational Meet. The Bulls were just awarded their third consecutive AAC Male Track Athlete of the Week award, this time to Shevioe Reid. Last week, Reid set a South Florida record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.67., which is good for the 10th-fastest 200m time in the NCAA this season. He was also part of the 4x400m relay group that ran a time of 3:07.78, the second-best time in program history and the 20th-best 4x400m relay time in the NCAA this season.

Day one of the meet begins Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the men's and women's long jump. The women will send out Shaniya Benjamin, Kendall McDaniel, Annia Ashley, and Antonia Sealy. The men will have Elisha Teneus-Claude and Goodness Iredia compete.

Concurrently at 2:00 p.m., the men will participate in the pole vault with Kobe BabinNoah Bitter, and Andreas Kreiss competing. At 4:30 p.m. the women will have their pole vault competition featuring Ella Dolce.

The women's weight throw will also occur at 2:00 p.m. and will feature Alliya Boothe and Alexandria Hunter.

Track events will begin at 3:40 p.m. with the women's 400m featuring Terren Peterson, Zahria Allers-Liburd, and Amenda Saint-Louis. The women's finals will take place at 6:00 p.m. The men's 400m is at 4:00 p.m. and will include Reid, Tre'Sean Bouie, Daunte O'Banion, Aidan Dixon, Joshua Crum, Nathan Metelus, and Devontie Archer. The men's finals will take place at 6:10 p.m.

The preliminary round for the women's 60m dash will take place at 4:20 p.m. and see Benjamin, Lynette Scutari, Amani Kirnon, and Gianna Hansen. The women's final will take place at 6:40 p.m. The men's preliminary will be at 4:30 p.m. and include Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Jermaine Dyges, Shomari Pettigrew, Zayquan Lincoln, and Jaleel Croal. The men's final will occur at 6:50 p.m.

Saturday field events will kick off at 11:30 a.m. for the Bulls with the women's shot put featuring Boothe, Hunter, and Jazmyn James. The men's shot put will follow at 1:30 p.m. and include Aidan Marsh.

At 1:00 p.m. both men's and women's high jump will commence. The men's will feature Teneus-Claude and Kendell Mosley, while the women's will include Ashley, Molie Jean Baptiste, McDaniel, and Sealy. Afterward, the men's and women's Triple Jump will take place at 1:30 p.m. with Ashley participating for the women, and Teneus-Claude and Iredia for the men.

The track events will begin at Noon on Saturday with the preliminary women's 60m hurdles featuring Madeline Abega, Chakiya Plummer, Hansen, and Sealy. The women's final will be at 2:55 p.m. The men will race their preliminary 60m hurdles at 12:10 p.m. sending out Michael Bourne IIITyler Drew, Crum, and Markel Jones. The men's final will be at 2:50 p.m.

The women's 200m starts at 12:20 p.m. and includes Benjamin, Peterson, Allers-Liburd, Kirnon, and Scutari. The men will race their 200m at 12:40 p.m. and feature Pettigrew, Lincoln, Croal, Metelus, Dyges, and Reid.

In the last South Florida event before relays, Dixon and Karim Belmahdi will compete in the men's 800m at 3:15 p.m.

The meet will conclude on Saturday with the 4x400m relays. The women will run at 3:50 p.m., while the men will follow at 4:00 p.m.

After The Windy City Invitational, the Bulls will have an off week to prepare for the AAC Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on February 23-24, which will be followed by the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9 in Boston, Mass.

 About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
