MEET: Tom Jones Memorial

Tampa, Fla. April 11, 2024 – The University of South Florida track and field team returns to Gainesville for the second time in three weeks, this time to compete in the Tom Jones Memorial. The men's team ranks third in the nation, the highest ranking in program history. The men have seven top-10 NCAA Division I marks heading into the meet, while the women's team has two.
Both teams are not sending their full roster, with a west coast trip coming up on Wednesday for the Mt. SAC relays.
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu will be competing in the men's 100m dash at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday and can be streamed
here.
TRACK
The 100m dash will see
Shomari Pettigrew and
Saminu compete for the men. Saminu just ran the NCAA's best Division I time (9.95w) at the South Florida Invitational. The women's 100m will have
Amani Kirnon race.
In the 200m dash, the men will race
Shevioe Reid. Reid holds the 12th-best NCAA Division I time this season, (20.41). The women's 20m will also see Kirnon race.
For the 400m dash, South Florida's men's team will run Reid and
Tre'Sean Bouie.
South Florida's men's team enters the meet with the number one ranked 400m hurdles event squad in the NCAA. This week they will have
Darian Mills and
Joshua Crum compete. The women will have
Madeline Abega compete in the 400m hurdles.
FIELD
In the pole vault, the men are sending
Kobe Babin,
Noah Bitter, and
Andreas Kreiss. Babin currently holds the 10th-best clearance in the NCAA, at 5.40m/17' 8.50". The women will send
Ella Dolce and
Madeline Dutz.
In the long jump
, Kendell Moley, and
Elisha Teneus-Claude will compete for the men. The women are sending
Nischa King,
Annia Ashley, and
Kendall McDaniel to jump.
In the high jump, the men are sending
Mosley and
Teneus-Claude to Gainesville, while the women are sending McDaniel,
Molie Jean Baptiste, and
Ashley.
In the triple jump, the women will have
Mimansa Dahiya, Ashley, and
Ryan Lewis jump.
For the hammer, the women will send
Alliya Boothe,
Annalee Harbison, and
Alexandria Hunter.
In the shot put, the men will have
Aidan Marsh and
Vincent Ugwoke throw, while the women will have Jazmyn James throw.
Discus will see Marsh and Ugwoke both throw for the men, with James, Hunter and Harbison throwing for the women.

The USF track and field men's team won the 2024 Indoor AAC Championship. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump as a Bull. The team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
