NEW ORLEANS, La. (April 13, 2024) – The University of South Florida Bulls (20-15, 6-5 AAC) fell behind early and dropped a lopsided contest, 14-4, for the second straight night to the Tulane University Green Wave (20-15, 5-6 AAC) on Saturday.
South Florida trailed 5-1 after two innings on Friday and 6-1 after two frames on Saturday night. USF pitching was plagued by free passes for the second straight game, issuing five walks and hitting five batters.
The Bulls got on the board first in the top of the first with a perfectly executed hit-and-run by John Montes (Toa Alto, Puerto Rico) that chased home Eric Snow (Forsyth, Ga.).
The Green Wave answered right back in the bottom of the first, plating a trio of runs to take the lead and added three more in the bottom of the second inning. Five of the six runs scored with two outs.
The Bulls cut their deficit to 6-4 in the top of the fourth inning, but the Green Wave stretched their lead back to 8-4 in the bottom half of the frame. Tulane scored eight unanswered runs to close the ballgame, including four in the seventh inning before ending the game in the bottom of the eighth.
Notable
- Ben Rozenblum (Coral Springs) went 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI-double.
- Montes extended his hitting streak to a season-best eight games and has reached base safely in 17 consecutive games.
- Marcus Brodil (Dunedin) had his career-high 11-game hitting streak snapped, but drew a walk and has reached base safely in 14 straight games.
- The Bulls finished the night with 10 hits. USF has recorded 10 or more hits in a game 21 times this season and is 17-4 in those contests.
