SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 11, 2024) – The University of South Florida Bulls (24-26, 10-13 AAC) put up a five-run fifth inning on Saturday afternoon for a 6-3 comeback victory over the UTSA Roadrunners (28-21, 14-9 AAC) to even the weekend series at one game apiece.
Jack Cebert (Tampa) allowed two runs over 5.2 IP for his second straight weekend win. Cebert improves to 6-6 on the season. Chandler Dorsey (Lakeland) recorded his eighth save of the year.
South Florida trailed 2-0 after the first inning of play as the Roadrunners scattered three hits, including a pair of infield singles, to take an early lead.
Joaquin Monque (Weston) cut the deficit in half with a solo homer in the fourth frame and John Montes (Toa Alto, Puerto Rico) tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
Montes' blast sparked a five-run rally that saw the Bulls string together five straight hits to take the lead. Marcus Brodil (Dunedin), Rafael Betancourt (Deltona) and Monque each had run-scoring hits in the inning.
Bobby Boser (Wesley Chapel) paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.
Notable
- Boser saw his three-game home run streak come to an end, but he extended his hitting streak to a season-best seven straight games. Boser is batting .571 (12-for-21) with four homers and two doubles over his last six games.
- Montes recorded his team-leading 19th multi-hit game of the season.
