USF Track and Field Heads to San Antonio for Outdoor AAC Championships

The men look to sweep indoor and outdoor conference championships for the first time in program history.

Tampa, Fla. May 9, 2024 – The University of South Florida track and field travels to San Antonio, Texas for the Outdoor AAC Championships. The Bulls are sending 55 athletes to the three-day meet.
 
The men won their first conference championship in program history at the 2024 indoor conference championships and look to be the first men's team to sweep both since Houston in 2019.
 
The women finished third at 2024 indoors, their best finish since coming in second in 2004, and will look to improve upon their 2023 outdoor finish of fourth place.
 
FRIDAY
Action kicks off Friday with field event trials. The top nine finishers from the trials immediately advance to the event's final round and a champion is crowned.
 
First up Friday morning at 11:00 a.m., is the women's hammer throw, featuring Alexandria Hunter, Alliya Boothe, and Annalee Harbison. The men follow at 1:00 p.m. and will feature Vincent Ugwoke.
 
The women's Javelin will begin at 3:00 p.m. as Antonia Sealy returns from injury to compete for the Bulls. The men will see Aidan Marsh throw at 5:00 p.m.
 
Track competition opens up at 6:45 p.m., as Karim Belmahdi and Jonathan Reid will compete in the men's 1500m trial.
 
At 7:00 p.m., Shaniya Benjamin, Zahria Allers-Liburd, Terren Peterson, Lynette Scutari, Amani Kirnon, and Je'Nyia Burton will compete in the women's 200m dash trial.
 
15 minutes later, the men will compete in their 200m dash trials and feature Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Shevioe Reid, Jaleel Croal, Nathan Metelus, Zayquan Lincoln, Jermaine Dyges, Shomari Pettigrew, and JeyQuan Smith.
 
At 7:30 p.m. hurdle action kicks off with Chakiya Plummer and Madeline Abega in the 400m hurdles trials. Then at 7:40 p.m. the men will see Markel Jones, Devontie Archer, Michael Bourne III, Darian Mills, Tyler Drew, and Joshua Crum in their trials.
 
SATURDAY
Day two begins with the women's long jump at 3:00 p.m., and will have Benjamin, Kendall McDaniel, and Nischa King compete. The men will begin their competition after, around 5:00 p.m. and see Goodness Iredia, Kendell Mosley, and Elisha Teneus-Claude compete.
 
At 3:30 p.m. the women's shot put will begin and feature Jazmyn James and Hunter for South Florida. The men will compete after, around 5:30 p.m., and see Ugwoke and Marsh throw.
 
Lastly, in field trials and finals for the day, the women's pole vault will begin at 4:30 p.m. and feature Madeline Dutz and Ella Dolce.
 
Track trials will open at 5:25 p.m. with the women's 100m hurdles featuring Plummer, Gianna Hansen, and Abega for South Florida.
 
At 5:45 p.m., the men will race the 110m hurdles trials and feature Jones, Bourne III, Drew, and Mills.
 
After at 6:00 p.m., the women's 800m trials will see Amenda Saint-Louis, Arden La-Rose, and Sydni Studesville race. Then the men will run theirs at 6:15 p.m. and feature Belmahdi and Jesse Benavides.
 
The women's 400m dash will be at 6:30 p.m. and see Peterson, Burton, and Saint-Louis run. Then the men will run at 6:45 p.m. and include Tre'Sean Bouie, Daunte O'Banion, Gabriel Moronta, Reid, Metelus, and Aidan Dixon.
 
The 100m trials will start at 7:00 p.m. with Benjamin, Allers-Liburd, Scutari, Kirnon, and Hansen running for South Florida's women. Then Saminu, Croal, Dyges, Lincoln, Smith, and Pettigrew will run for the men at 7:15 p.m.
 
Lastly, at 7:45 p.m., Tyler Wadsworth will represent the Bulls in the 3000m Steeplechase.
 
SUNDAY
Day three will begin with an onslaught of field events. At 2:30 p.m. men's high jump featuring Mosley, Teneus-Claude, and Iredia.
 
Concurrently the women's triple jump will begin and see Mimansa Dahiya, Ryan Lewis, and Annia Ashley compete.
 
The women's discus throw will also occur then, with James, Hunter, Harbison, and Boothe throwing.
 
The men's pole vault final will take place at 3:30pm and see Kobe Babin, Noah Bitter, and Andreas Kreiss jump.
 
4:30pm will see the women's high jump begin, featuring Molie Jean Baptiste, Ashley, and McDaniel.
 
Concurrently, Iredia will compete in the men's triple jump and Marsh and Ugwoke will throw in the men's discus.
 
The track day will open with the women's 4x100m relay at 4:30 p.m., and the men's after at 4:40 p.m.
 
Then starting at 5:00 p.m., the competition moves into the final stretch, with all athletes who advanced from track trials competing in the finals. Below is the order of the championship events should any Bulls make it.
 
5:00 p.m. M-1500m final
5:10 p.m. 100m Hurdles final
5:20 p.m. 110m Hurdles final
5:30 p.m. W-400m dash final
5:35 p.m. M-400m dash final
5:45 p.m. W-100m dash final
5:50 p.m. M-100m dash final
6:00 p.m. W-800m dash final
6:05 p.m. M-800m dash final
6:15 p.m. W-400m hurdles final
6:20 p.m. M-400m hurdles final
6:30 p.m. W-200m dash final
6:35 p.m. M-200m dash final
 
At 7:10 p.m., Wadsworth, Belmahdi, Benavides, and Jonathan Reid will run the men's 5000m race.
 
The meet will conclude with the women's 4x400m relay at 7:35 p.m. and the men's at 7:45 p.m. with awards being handed out following.

UP NEXT
The Bulls will have an off week and then those who qualify are off to Lexington, Ky. For the NCAA Regionals May 22-25.

The USF track and field men's team won the 2024 Indoor AAC Championship. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump as a Bull. The team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
