USF Cross Country Hits Road to Alabama for the Southern Showcase

The Bulls continue the 2024 season on Friday morning in Huntsville, Ala. at John Hunt Park.
Huntsville, Ala., September 12, 2024 – The University of South Florida men's and women's cross country teams continue their 2024 season on Friday, September 12, at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala., hosted by Jacksonville State University.
The races will be run at John Hunt Park. The women's 5K race will kick off at 10:00 a.m., while the men's 8K race will begin at 9:00 a.m. Awards will be presented to the top-20 finishers of each race.
"The Southern Showcase has become one of the nation's premier cross-country invitationals," Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Erik Jenkins said. "Collectively we are looking forward to quality competition in Huntsville. "
The women will race nine runners. Seniors Victoria Valdez and Sydney Granack; juniors Hailey Cohen, Cora Kolodge, Giovana Meade, and Chloe Fernander; sophomores Callie Wakefield, Katelyn Thompson, and Delaney Stephens, who is making her 2024 debut.
The men will race eight runners. Sophomore Sean Perry, senior Sebastian Edwards, junior Jayven Garcia, and freshmen John Keester IV will all be competing in their second race of the year. The men will have five Bulls debuting for this season, junior Karim Belmahdi, freshman Clayton Knight, freshman Andrew Marello, and sophomore Jackson Dravo.
After this meet, the Bulls travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the FSU Pre-regional scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27.
About USF Cross Country
The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's teams have won seven team conference championships and the women have won five team championships. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019 and during his tenure the Bulls posted twelve program records and 106 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
