USF Cross Country Hits Road to Alabama for the Southern Showcase

The Bulls continue the 2024 season on Friday morning in Huntsville, Ala. at John Hunt Park.
Huntsville, Ala., September 12, 2024ย โย The University of South Florida men's and women's cross country teams continue their 2024 season on Friday, September 12, at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala., hosted by Jacksonville State University.
The races will be run at John Hunt Park. The women's 5K race will kick off at 10:00 a.m., while the men's 8K race will begin at 9:00 a.m.ย Awards will be presented to the top-20 finishers of each race.
"The Southern Showcase has become one of the nation's premier cross-country invitationals," Director of Cross Country and Track &ย Fieldย Erik Jenkinsย said. "Collectively we are looking forward to quality competition in Huntsville. "ย
The women will race nineย runners. Seniorsย Victoria Valdezย andย Sydney Granack;ย juniorsย Hailey Cohen,ย Cora Kolodge, Giovana Meade, andย Chloe Fernander; sophomoresย Callie Wakefield,ย Katelyn Thompson,ย and Delaney Stephens, who is making her 2024 debut.
The men will race eight runners. Sophomoreย Sean Perry,ย seniorย Sebastian Edwards, junior Jayven Garcia, and freshmenย John Keester IV will all be competing in their second race of the year. The men will have fiveย Bulls debuting for this season, junior Karim Belmahdi, freshman Clayton Knight, freshman Andrew Marello, and sophomore Jackson Dravo.
After this meet, the Bulls travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the FSU Pre-regional scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27.ย

The USFย Cross Countryย team has earnedย 2ย All-America selections,ย Christina Benton in 2002 and Grayย Mavheraย in 1994.ย The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women.ย The USF men's teams have won seven team conference championships and the women have won five team championships. Director of Track & Field and Cross Countryย Erik Jenkinsย took over the program inย 2019 andย during his tenureย the Bulls posted twelveย program records andย 106ย top 10ย all-time program marks. USF hosted theย 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.ย ย
