The Bulls will send sailors to races in New Orleans and Jacksonville.
TAMPA (September 19, 2024) – The University of South Florida Bulls will split their sailors into a pair of events on September 21-22. Sailors will be sent to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl Women's Regatta and others will compete in the SAISA Women's Top 9 Invite in Jacksonville.
Tulane will host the Sugar Bowl Women's Regatta on Lake Pontchartrain. Defending national champion Stanford will be competing, as will other ranked teams, including Tulane, College of Charleston and Jacksonville University.
South Florida will field two teams at the Sugar Bowl Regatta. Seniors Kay Brunsvold, Heidi Hicks and Kalea Woodard along with junior Madisen Hamai will lead the way, while first year sailors Grace Jones, Macy Parke, Mercedes Newland, and Ghislaine van Empel are competing in their first collegiate event.
The venue features relatively shallow, open waters, similar to the conditions on Tampa Bay, which the Bulls will look to use to their advantage.
The SAISA Women's Top 9 Invite is hosted by Jacksonville University. Assistant Coach Rachael Silverstein will be traveling with Emma Shakespeare, Dana Aljasir, Kailey Warrior, Melissa Janes, Sara Menesale, Marina Dreyfuss and Cate Brennan. This regatta features the top women's teams in the SAISA conference, including Miami, NC State, FSU, Jacksonville University and Rollins.
