NEW ORLEANS (January 11, 2025) – The University of South Florida men's basketball team returned to the court for an American Athletic Conference matchup with Tulane on Saturday.
Jamille Reynolds led the Bulls with 19 points, but USF fell 73-70.
With the loss, South Florida fell to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in AAC play, while Tulane improved to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
The game started as a back-and-forth battle, with four different USF players knocking down shots from the field. The Bulls held an 8-7 lead at the first media timeout.
The Green Wave went on a 7-2 run and took a 14-10 lead with 11:29 left in the first stanza. Tulane outscored South Florida 8-4 over the next three minutes of play and extended its lead to 22-14.
The Bulls were unfazed and went on a 16-4 run. During this run, South Florida held Tulane scoreless for 4:15 of play.
Quincy Ademokoya started the run with a 3-pointer.
Kobe Knox added a 3-pointer, and
CJ Brown made two free throws to end the USF run.
The Green Wave closed the half by outscoring the Bulls 8-7, but South Florida took a 37-34 lead into the break. USF shot 57.7 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from 3-point range in the first half.
After Tulane opened the second half on an 8-4 run, South Florida rattled off seven unanswered points to regain the lead, 48-42. The Bulls held the Green Wave scoreless for 2:45. Ademokoya knocked down his third 3-pointer of the game.
The Green Wave scored the game's next four points, but the Bulls were unfazed as Reynolds scored the next five points. After Reynolds knocked down a free throw, he recorded back-to-back dunks, with the second being an alley-oop.
Tulane went on an 11-4 run and tied the game at 57-57. After the Green Wave took a 63-60 lead, Jimmie Wiliams made it a one-point game with a layup. Reynolds picked up his second alley-oop dunk to give the Bulls a 64-63 lead with 3:37 left in regulation.
The Green Wave outscored the Bulls 10-6 to end the game and win 73-70.
Reynolds finished with a game-high 19 points. He added three rebounds, one steal, and one block. Ademokoya tallied 13 points, three assists, two rebounds, and one block. Brown recorded a career-high six assists and a career-high six rebounds. He added eight points, a game-high three steals, and one block.
De'Ante Green,
Jimmie Williams, and Knox all collected five rebounds each.
The Bulls held the advantage in bench points, 26-17. South Florida outscored Tulane 38-20 in points in the paint.
Asher Wood led the Green Wave with 15 points. Kaleb Banks posted a 14-point performance, while Rowan Brumbaugh added 13. Gregg Glenn III brought down a game-high seven rebounds.
