Hatters top Bulls in competitive match

South Florida dropped a 4-1 decision on Wednesday afternoon.

TAMPA (January 29, 2025) – The University of South Florida Bulls (0-3) pushed the Stetson Hatters (4-1) all afternoon, but ultimately fell in a 4-1 contest on Wednesday in DeLand.

The doubles decision came down to the final court which went into a tiebreaker and four of the six singles matches went to a third set.

The freshman duo of Sienna Leeson and Margherita Marcon tallied a 6-3 win on court 1 before Stetson claimed the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-4) win over Dharani Niroshan and Melisa Senli on court 2.

Leeson also notched a 6-3, 6-2 win on court 4 during singles action. On court 2, Marcon was topped in the deciding set 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 and Niroshan suffered a 7-5, 0-6, 1-6 loss on court 5. On court 1, Senli pushed her opponent to a third set as did Gargi Pawar on court 6, but those matches went unfinished as the Hatters claimed the team win.

Up Next

The Bulls open the home portion of their schedule against Texas State on Friday, January 31 at 12 p.m. in Tampa and host Florida A&M on Sunday, February 2 at 12 p.m.
