Mac Harris Earns USF Football’s Third American Defensive Player of the Week Honor

October 20, 2025

Midseason All-American led USF with 10 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss vs. FAU
TAMPA, FLA., OCT. 20, 2025 – Graduate linebacker Mac Harris, who was named to The Sporting News Midseason All-American team last week, has earned USF Football's third American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor. Meanwhile, quarterback Byrum Brown was named to the conference's weekly honor roll for the fifth time this season.

Harris, who led the Bulls in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks last year, led No. 18-ranked South Florida (6-1; 3-0 American) with 10 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and a quarterback hurry in a 48-13 domination of FAU on homecoming. The South Florida defense limited FAU to 23 rushing yards (-13 until midway through the fourth quarter), 6-of-21 efficiency on third down and held the Owls, who entered the game scoring 32.8 ppg, to only one touchdown.

Harris joins fellow Bulls linebacker Jhalyn Shuler, who has twice been named the American Defensive Player of the Week on the year, in gaining USF's third conference weekly defensive player honor. The Bulls defense leads the nation with 17 takeaways on the year, stands seventh in redzone defense (.714) and ranks 11th with two defensive touchdowns. The Bulls have forced a turnover in 15 straight games, the second-longest streak in the nation.

Brown earned American Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention honors after accounting for four touchdowns and guiding USF to its fourth straight game of 48 points and 500 yards or more. Brown threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 111 yards and a touchdown. He extended the nation's longest active string of games with three or more touchdown passes to four, a USF record, and has accounted for 18 touchdowns in his last four games. Brown ranks No. 6 in the nation in points responsible for (18.9 ppg), No. 6 in total offense (310.0 ypg) and No. 14 in touchdown passes (16).
