CAR WRAPS UP THE FALL SEASON AT THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

Car fell short to the reigning champion in the first round; 4-6, 2-6

ORLANDO (November 18, 2025)- The University of South Florida's Hugo Car fell short in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship, after facing last year's reigning champion, Michel Zheng. The tournament was hosted at USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla from November 18-23. The final score was 4-6, 2-6

 

Car started the match incredibly strong, taking a solid 3-0 lead against Zheng. Zheng battled back to tie the match 3-3, before Car came back in the lead 4-3. Zheng ended up taking a streak of wins to finish the first set 4-6. 

 

In the second set, Zheng came out strong 4-0. The players battled with strong holds, going back and forth. Car held for a 4-1 score, Zheng battled back 5-1, and Car earned another hold for a 5-2 score. Zheng ended up wrapping up the second set, 2-6. 

 

Car was the first Bull to travel to the Outdoor NCAA Singles Championship in over 20 years, and earned a Singles title at the JUCO level.

Head coach Ashley Fisher is in his ninth year at the helm of the program for the 2024-25 season. Fischer has guided the Bulls to four NCAA Tournaments, including three trips to the second round. He was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2017 & 2019 after leading USF to the conference title in each of those seasons.
