TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 6, 2025 – The University of South Florida beach volleyball team will compete this week at the 2025 AVCA Beach National Championships in Huntsville, Ala., with Abigail Lagemann and Josephine Sek representing the Bulls as a pair. The rest of the USF team will compete at the UAB Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., wrapping up the fall season.

The women's pairs national championship runs Friday through Sunday at John Hunt Park, featuring a 64-pair bracket with no pool play. Lagemann and Sek will face Arizona State University in their opening match on Friday at 8 a.m. ET. The tournament includes several top programs from last season's AVCA Collegiate Beach Final Poll, including Cal Poly, Stanford, USC, Long Beach State, UCLA, TCU, Loyola Marymount, Texas, Florida State, Arizona State, California, North Florida, Stetson, LSU, Washington, and Hawaii. Schools earned bids through spring 2025 performance, recent qualifying events, and at-large selections.

In the West Qualification Bid Division competition, Josephine Sek teamed with Zoey Mitchell, taking both No. 3 UCLA and Pepperdine to three sets, with each match decided by just two points after opening against Boise State 1s. The pair played Boise State 3s to a decisive third set, falling 13-15.

Abigail Lagemann, competing with Morgan Anderson, pushed Boise State 2s (receiving votes for national ranking) to a third set, falling narrowly 13-15 in the final frame. The duo also faced nationally ranked opponents No. 8 Florida State and No. 10 Long Beach State, along with Saint Mary's, where they dropped a tightly contested first set 19-21.

Lagemann and Sek enter the National Championships looking to build on those close matches and continue their strong play against top-level competition.
Although the team will be competing across two locations, the weekend represents an important opportunity for South Florida's young program to continue developing on the national stage against top-level collegiate competition.
