USF Pair Competes at AVCA Beach National Championships

Abigail Lagemann and Josephine Sek represent South Florida in 64-team national field at Huntsville

TAMPA, Fla., November 9, 2025 – The University of South Florida beach volleyball program closed its fall exhibition slate at the AVCA Beach National Championships in Huntsville, Ala., where Abigail Lagemann and Josephine Sek competed among a 64-team national field featuring top collegiate pairs from across the country.
 
The Bulls' duo opened play on Friday against No. 12 Arizona State, falling in a tightly contested three-set match (1–2) with close scores throughout. They followed with another strong performance against No. 11 LSU, taking the first set before narrowly falling in the second, 22–20, and the decisive third, 15–13. The Bulls battled point-for-point against two nationally ranked opponents in one of their most competitive outings of the tournament.

Lagemann and Sek bounced back on Saturday with an impressive pair of straight-set victories. They swept Austin Peay, 2-0, before carrying that momentum into another decisive 2-0 win over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi to finish the day undefeated.
 
On Sunday, the Bulls concluded their weekend against Southern Miss, falling in straight sets in another closely contested match.
 
Competing against elite programs from across the country, Lagemann and Sek showcased the progress and potential of South Florida's young beach volleyball program, continuing to build valuable experience and momentum heading into the spring season.

About USF Beach Volleyball
The University of South Florida Beach Volleyball program is one of the newest sports at the university, bringing USF Athletics to a total of 21 teams and marking an exciting era for the Bulls. Pri Piantadosi-Lima was named South Florida's first-ever beach volleyball head coach on June 6, 2023. Coach Pri also serves as the head coach of the beach national team development program and was honored as the 2022 USA Volleyball Female Junior Coach of the Year. Before joining USF, she helped lead Eckerd College to its first AVCA national championship and two consecutive NCAA championship podium finishes. USF Beach Volleyball will join Conference USA effective July 1, 2025, and compete in exhibition-style matches until officially starting Division I competition during the 2025-2026 season.
