USF Men’s Basketball Dominates Georgia College to Close Non-Conference Play

Bulls close non-conference play with fifth-most points in program history to stay undefeated at home.

TAMPA, Fla, Dec. 29, 2025 – The University of South Florida men's basketball team delivered a dominant 111–50 win over Georgia College & State University on Sunday night at the Yuengling Center, closing the non-conference schedule to stay undefeated at home this season (6–0). The Bulls erupted for a season-high 111 points, their third 100-point performance of the year, and the program's largest margin of victory in program history. It was also the fifth-most points scored in program history.

Izaiyah Nelson led the Bulls with 25 points and 12 rebounds, securing his ninth double-double of the season, and his third game in a row with 20+ points this year. CJ Brown added his second double-double of the season with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and added a career-high 8 assists. Josh Omojafo finished with 23 points, tying his career-best with 13 made free throws (13–15 FT).

South Florida set the tone immediately, scoring first and thriving in transition, where the Bulls produced 20 fastbreak points before halftime and 32 total on the night. South Florida paired its pace with physicality on the glass, pulling down 27 rebounds in the opening half and finishing with 51 boards overall, including 14 offensive rebounds that fueled the team's high-tempo identity.

The Bulls controlled the first-half battle on both ends, posting 27 total rebounds with nine coming on the offensive glass, while holding GCSU scoreless in transition. Broadcast highlighted that USF thrives in transition and plays at one of the highest tempos in the country, as the Bulls currently rank 19th nationally in adjusted tempo according to KenPom, reinforcing the team's commitment to pace, depth, and pressure. South Florida took a 31 point lead into half after scoring a season-high in first half points (61).
South Florida kept their scoring rhythm in the second half to expand the lead, staying committed to attacking the rim and generating transition offense. The Bulls ended with 32 fastbreak points in the game and finished perfect on all seven dunk attempts. South Florida's defense stayed disruptive in the half, protecting the rim with multiple blocks, including a highlight stop from Collins that reinforced USF's interior presence. 

South Florida never let GCSU find a rhythm in the open floor, continuing to dictate the pace through the final buzzer. The Bulls finished 111–50, earning their largest margin of victory in program history, improving to 6–0 at home, and closing the game with a season-high 111 points, the third time scoring 100+ this season. This was the fifth-most points scored in program history.

  • Undefeated at Home – USF stayed undefeated at home (6-0) this season, the program's best home start since 2011-12.
  • Double-Digit Depth – Five Bulls reached double digits: Izaiyah Nelson, Josh Omojafo, CJ Brown, Devin Haid, and Isaiah Jones.

About USF Men's Basketball
South Florida men's basketball named Bryan Hodgson, 37, as the program's 12th head coach on March 24, 2025. Hodgson came to Tampa from Arkansas State, where he led the program to back-to-back 20-win seasons and its first postseason appearance since 1999 in his two seasons at the helm.
 
The program, entering its 55th season in 2025-26, most recently won the American Athletic Conference regular season championship in 2023-24 and has made 13 postseason appearances, including three NCAA Tournaments, nine NITs, and a CBI championship in 2019. Three former Bulls – Chucky Atkins, Charlie Bradley, and Rodenko Dobras – have had their jerseys retired and are members of the USF Athletic Hall of Fame. The Bulls play their home games at the 10,400-seat Yuengling Center on the USF Tampa campus.
