USF Softball Rallies Past Kent State

Payton Dixon recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts.

TAMPA, Fla., February 22, 2025 –The University of South Florida softball team (12-4) won versus the Kent State Golden Flashes, 8-3, on Saturday night at the USF Softball Stadium. 

Kent State opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, with the opening run reaching on an error. South Florida had an opportunity to respond in the bottom of the first but left the bases loaded. 

The Golden Flashes struck again in the top of the third inning, with one run coming after back-to-back doubles to left-center field. Another run came in on an RBI single, as the visitors took a three-run lead.

The Bulls had another opportunity to get on the board in the third inning but left another two runners stranded. South Florida finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a wild pitch from Kent State pitcher Delaney Nagy.

The Bulls rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating one run on an RBI single off the bat of DaNia Brooks, and the second run coming home after an errant throw by the right fielder. Josie Foreman made sure the scoring continued, blasting a pinch-hit three-run home run to left field, her second of the day. The Bulls' resilient inning continued with Alexa Galligani singling home Olivia Elliott to cap off a six-run inning.

Karhys Pierce singled home Alanah Rivera in the bottom of the sixth, increasing the Bulls lead to five. South Florida's defense rallied behind Payton Dixon to prevent Kent State from scoring any more runs, as the Bulls capped off a resilient victory.

  • 10 strikeouts is the best performance by the pitching staff so far this season.

  • Foreman led the team with a season-high three RBI.

  • Elliott stole her team-leading fifth base of the season.

  • Galligani reached base for the 11th straight game. 

  • Alex Wilkes recorded a career-high two doubles for her fifth multi-hit game of the season.

  • After not hitting a home run for 1,009 days, Foreman hit two on the same day.

  • Brooks recorded a season-high two hits.
