TAMPA, FEB. 22, 2025 – The University of South Florida women's lacrosse team continues its historic inaugural season, hosting 11-time NCAA Tournament qualifier Towson on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at Corbett Stadium.

Setting The Stage:
The Bulls (3-1) put up 11 goals on the stout defense of No. 5 ranked Florida in a seven-goal loss and now prepare for a talented Towson team. The Tigers (2-1) enter the contest following back-to-back wins against Georgetown (10-9) and Jacksonville University (15-7), only losing the season opener to Mount St. Mary's by one goal (11-10).

Series History:
This is the first meeting between USF and Towson in women's lacrosse history. Mindy has coached against Towson one time in her career. Jacksonville University fell in overtime to the Tigers 10-9 on Feb 13, 2016.

Note-A-Bull:
USF's offense averages 14.5 goals per game, good for the 23rd-ranked scoring offense in the DI NCAA women's lacrosse. They're led by attacker Sofia Chepenik with 14 points (10 goals and four assists) on the season. Alison Harbaugh ranks 41st in the NCAA with six assists already.

The Bulls are the 12th-ranked team in the NCAA in free-position shots, scoring on 61.1 percent of free-position shots taken thus far this season.

Goalkeeper Paige Pagano has been a force in the cage, ranking fourth in the NCAA in saves (39 saves).

The Bulls are holding opponents to just under 10 goals a game (9.75), having only given up eight first-quarter goals in three games, with six coming against No. 5 ranked Florida.

Additional Notes:
  • Towson is an 11-time NCAA Tournament qualifier.
  • The Bulls' win would make four on the season, tying the DI NCAA lead (Boston College, UMass-Lowell, Northwestern, and SDSU).
  • South Florida only trailed vs. No. 5 ranked Florida this season.
  • USF is playing the third game of a four-game homestand.

About USF Women's Lacrosse
The University of South Florida announced the addition of women's lacrosse to its now 21-sport varsity athletics department in November of 2021. Fast forward to Feb. 7, 2025, the program embarked on its inaugural season in a 19-6 win over KSU, setting the State of Florida's regular season attendance record (2,386 fans). The Bulls named eight-time conference coach of the year Mindy McCord to lead the program in May of 2022. McCord, who came to USF with 240 career wins, earned 21 regular season and conference tournament titles at Jacksonville University. She led the program to eight NCAA appearances after launching and leading the Dolphins' program over its first 13 years. She developed 13 All-Americans, 81 all-conference selections, and 13 conference Player of the Year honorees during that span, departing JU following to back Sweet Sixteen berths. USF runs a fast-paced, high-scoring offense influenced by the early 1990s Loyola Marymount men's basketball record-setting fast break, which ranked among the national leaders in shots, points per game, and scoring margin numerous seasons during McCord's tenure at JU.
