First Place Bulls Look to Extend Win Streak to Five Games in Second Road and Conference Game of the Season.

TAMPA, MARCH 21, 2025 – The University of South Florida women's lacrosse team (7-2) continues its historic inaugural season, traveling to ECU (2-4) in the second-ever road and conference game in program history. The Bulls take on the Pirates this Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Johnson Stadium.
 
Setting The Stage:
The Bulls are coming off a 15-9 victory over Temple, extending their win streak to four games. The Bulls have outscored their opponents 70-26 over the last four wins.
 
The Pirates are 2-4 overall. Their victories include their season opener at Queens (12-8) and their home opener last Sunday vs. Quinnipiac (17-9). This will be the first conference game of the season for ECU.
 
Series History:
This is the first meeting between USF and ECU in women's lacrosse history. The Pirates are in their eighth season as a program, with a total record of 41-75 all-time and 8-24 in conference play.
 
Note-A-Bull:
USF's offense averages 15.56 goals per game, good for the eighth-ranked scoring offense in the DI NCAA women's lacrosse. They're led by attacker Sofia Chepenik, with 39 points, good for 29th in the DI NCAA and first in the AAC. She has 30 goals and nine assists on the season.

The Bulls are the third-ranked team in DI NCAA in shots per game, averaging 37.00 shots a game through nine contests. Of those 37.00 shots per game, 26.78 have come on goal, good for seventh-best in DI NCAA lacrosse.
 
Goalkeeper Paige Pagano has been a force in the cage, coming off back-to-back AAC GK of the Week awards. She ranks seventh in DI NCAA in save percentage (53.1 percent). Her 86 saves rank 17th in DI NCAA. Pagano is only allowing 9.06 goals against per game, ranking 14th-best in DI NCAA.

  • The Bulls have outscored their opponents by 64 goals (142-78) over the first nine games.
  • The Bulls rank ninth in the nation in scoring margin, averaging 6.89 goals more than their opponents.
  • The Bulls have scored at least 11 goals in every game this season.
  • The Bulls rank third in the nation in shots per game (37).
  • USF forced a program-record 26 turnovers last time out. That is the fourth straight game they had 20 or more.
  • The Bulls are in first in the AAC and have the 10th-best win percentage in the NCAA (0.778)
  • USF is playing their second-ever road game; their first was an 11-8 win at Mercer on Feb. 11, 2025, while shorthanded.

About USF Women's Lacrosse
The University of South Florida announced the addition of women's lacrosse to its now 21-sport varsity athletics department in November of 2021. Fast forward to Feb. 7, 2025, the program embarked on its inaugural season in a 19-6 win over KSU, setting the State of Florida's regular season attendance record (2,386 fans). The Bulls named eight-time conference coach of the year Mindy McCord to lead the program in May of 2022. McCord, who came to USF with 240 career wins, earned 21 regular season and conference tournament titles at Jacksonville University. She led the program to eight NCAA appearances after launching and leading the Dolphins' program over its first 13 years. She developed 13 All-Americans, 81 all-conference selections, and 13 conference Player of the Year honorees during that span, departing JU following to back Sweet Sixteen berths. USF runs a fast-paced, high-scoring offense influenced by the early 1990s Loyola Marymount men's basketball record-setting fast break, which ranked among the national leaders in shots, points per game, and scoring margin numerous seasons during McCord's tenure at JU.
