TAMPA, MARCH 8, 2025 – The University of South Florida women's lacrosse team (4-2) continues its historic inaugural season, hosting Xavier (0-3) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Corbett Stadium.
 
Setting The Stage:
The Bulls are coming off a program record-tying 19 goals vs. St. Bonaventure in their fourth win of the season. They also set a record in the fewest goals allowed with their five goals given up.
 
The Musketeers are 0-3 and looking for their first win of their third season and ninth overall win in program history. Xavier continues their five-game road trip to open the year after falling to Akron in their opener (15-6), Cincinnati 11 days later (18-11), and No. 21 Duke on March 2nd (16-9).
 
Series History:
This is the first meeting between USF and Xavier in women's lacrosse history. Head Coach Mindy McCord, in her first season at USF, goes up against Head Coach Meg Decker in her third season at Xavier University.
 
Note-A-Bull:
USF's offense averages 14.83 goals per game, good for the 16th-ranked scoring offense in the DI NCAA women's lacrosse. They're led by attacker Sofia Chepenik, with 24 points (17 goals and seven assists) on the season.
 
The Bulls are the 13th-ranked team in the NCAA in shots per game, averaging 34.33 shots a game through six contests. Already, 24.5 of those 34.33 shots per game have come on goal, good for 17th best in DI NCAA lacrosse.
 
Goalkeeper Paige Pagano has been a force in the cage, ranking 14th in the NCAA in saves (57 saves). She averages 9.5 saves a game to rank 24th in the NCAA, and her 50.4 save percentage ranks 19th.

  • The Bulls rank 16th in the nation and first in the AAC in scoring, (14.83 goals a game).
  • South Florida ranks 13th in the nation and first in the AAC in shots per game, (34.33).
  • The Bulls have scored at least 11 goals in every game this season. They rank 16th in the nation in scoring margin, averaging 5.33 goals more than their opponents.
  • Sofia Chepenik's 17 goals rank first in the AAC and 43rd in the NCAA.
  • Paige Pagano sits 14th in the nation in saves (57).
  • Xavier Women's Lacrosse have embarked on their third season in program history, following a 4-11 record in 2024 and a 4-10 record over the 2023 season.
  • USF is playing the fifth game of a seven-game homestand. Their seventh game of which will open up conference play.

About USF Women's Lacrosse
The University of South Florida announced the addition of women's lacrosse to its now 21-sport varsity athletics department in November of 2021. Fast forward to Feb. 7, 2025, the program embarked on its inaugural season in a 19-6 win over KSU, setting the State of Florida's regular season attendance record (2,386 fans). The Bulls named eight-time conference coach of the year Mindy McCord to lead the program in May of 2022. McCord, who came to USF with 240 career wins, earned 21 regular season and conference tournament titles at Jacksonville University. She led the program to eight NCAA appearances after launching and leading the Dolphins' program over its first 13 years. She developed 13 All-Americans, 81 all-conference selections, and 13 conference Player of the Year honorees during that span, departing JU following to back Sweet Sixteen berths. USF runs a fast-paced, high-scoring offense influenced by the early 1990s Loyola Marymount men's basketball record-setting fast break, which ranked among the national leaders in shots, points per game, and scoring margin numerous seasons during McCord's tenure at JU.
