USF Baseball Drops Series Finale to Rice

HOUSTON, TEXAS, APRIL 13, 2025- The University of South Florida baseball team (20-13; 8-4 AAC) fell to the Rice Owls (9-29; 3-9 AAC) in the series finale on Sunday, 5-2.
 
The Bulls were slow to start, not scoring their first run until the third inning. Carlos Jacome and Bradke Lohry began with back-to-back singles. Jacome would cross the plate on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Pruitt.
 
South Florida added a run in the fifth inning. Lohry hit a double down the left-field line and advanced on a single from Pruitt. A fielder's choice from Matt Rose cut the Owl's lead to three.
 
Rice took the lead in the second, scoring two runs. They added to their lead over the next two innings, scoring two in the third and one in the fourth.
 
South Florida had a chance at tying the game in the ninth inning after Lance Trippel and Marcus Brodil hit back-to-back singles, but Rice got the outs they needed to win.
 
RHP Matt Goldenbaum earned his fourth start of the season. RHP Jack Nedrow made his 12th appearance. He pitched a season-high of 6.2 innings and struck out three batters.
 
Notables:
  • Marcus Brodil reached base for the 15th consecutive game, setting a new season-high for the senior. He had his 16th multi-hit performance today.  
  • Ryan Pruitt has produced 10 multi-performances this season with two hits today. He has recorded a hit in seven of his last 10 games.
  • Bradke Lohry has eight multi-hit games this season. He has a hit in seven of his last nine games.
  • Lance Trippel has seven multi-hit games this season. He has at least one hit in 10 of his last 12 games.
  • Jackson Mayo is one home run away from breaking into the top 10 career home run list in program history. He has hit 28 home runs in his career.
  • RHP Jack Nedrow set a season-high of 6.2 innings pitched, previously set at UAB on March 23 with 6.0 IP.

South Florida will cap off its four-game road stand in Tallahassee on Tuesday with a midweek matchup against the No. 9 Florida State Seminoles. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on AACNX.
