DENTON, Texas, April 27, 2025 –
Josie Foreman delivered a clutch hit in the top of the 10th inning for the University of South Florida softball team against North Texas on Sunday. The Bulls (38-14-1, 17-6-1) tallied 15 hits in the thrilling 10-inning victory against the Mean Green (34-16, 16-8) inside Lovelace Stadium.
With the series victory, South Florida is in second place and 1.5 games ahead of North Texas in the American Athletic Conference standings. The Bulls are 2.5 games behind the Florida Atlantic Owls.
Foreman led the Bulls with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a home run. She has 20 career home runs, which moved her into a tie for ninth all-time at USF.
Camille Ortiz-Martinez launched her 10th home run of the season and finished the game 2-for-4. She moved into a tie for sixth in USF's single-season home run list.
Olivia Elliott and
Kathy Garcia-Soto each produced three hits. Elliott extended her hitting streak to 12 games. With a hit in today's game,
Alexa Galligani extended her streak of reaching base safely to 18 games.
Alanah Rivera produced a hit and extended streak of reaching base safely to 12 games.
Payton Dixon started the game in the circle for the Bulls and went 7.0 innings. She struck out three batters. She surrendered 11 earned runs.
Hannah Marien gave up three earned runs.
Anne Long picked up the win in 3.0 innings in relief. She improved to 5-4 on the season and produced one strikeout.
Foreman led off the top of the second inning with a five-pitch walk.
Grace Chin pinch ran for Foreman. Rivera grounded out to the shortstop as Chin moved into scoring position. Ortiz-Martinez was hit by a pitch to give the Bulls runners on first and second.
Jamia Nelson reached on an error by the shortstop.
DaNia Brooks recorded a sac fly to shallow right as Chin tagged up and scored. Garcia-Soto doubled off the right field wall and scored Ortiz-Martinez from second.
Elliott drove in two runs with a double to left center. Galligani reached on an error by the shortstop, which allowed Elliott to score. The Bulls took a 5-0 lead into the third inning.
With two outs in the top of the third, Ortiz-Martinez launched a solo home run to center field. USF held a 6-0 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
The Mean Green cut into the Bulls' lead with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. USF led 6-2 after three innings.
With Garcia-Soto on second and two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Galligani produced an RBI single to left center. The Bulls extended their lead to 7-2.
USF scored five runs on three hits and one UNT error in the top of the fifth inning. Ortiz-Martinez drove in the inning's first run, while Elliott recorded an RBI double to right center. USF took a 12-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Mean Green did not go down quietly and scored four runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning. South Florida held a 12-6 lead after five innings of play.
Foreman launched a 1-0 pitch over the center-field wall for a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth inning. Brooks notched an RBI double to right center that scored
Allana Consolazio from first. USF took a 14-6 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
North Texas cut the deficit to 14-10 with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, the Mean Green scored four runs on five hits and tied the game at 14-14.
Elliott led off the top of the 10th inning with a single up the middle. Galligani dropped down the sac bunt and moved Elliott into scoring position. Foreman came up clutch for the Bulls with an RBI single to right field. Long got closed out the game for the Bulls as USF won 15-14.
