USF Women’s Soccer Opens the 2025 Season with a Road Victory Against Furman

Sadie Sider-Echenberg scored the first goal of the season for the Bulls
GREENVILLE, S.C. (August 14, 2025) – The reigning American Conference Midfielder of the Year, Sadie Sider-Echenberg, recorded the first goal of the 2025 season for the University of South Florida women's soccer team. Sider-Echenberg produced the match-winning goal as the Bulls (1-0) defeated the Furman Paladins (0-1), 1-0, on Thursday.
The Bulls posted the first shot of the match in the fifth minute off the foot of Sophia Cabral, but the shot was saved. Less than a minute later, the Paladins produced a shot on goal, but Leire Herraez Gallach came up with a big save to keep the match scoreless.
In the 25th minute, Hedda Ornberg sent a pass to Sider-Echenberg just outside the box. Sider-Echenberg blasted a shot off her left foot into the bottom right corner of the goal. The Bulls took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Herraez Gallach produced two saves in her 45 minutes in goal. Gaby Rourke made her USF debut in net in the second half. She recorded three saves and secured a combined shutout. USF has produced a shutout in six of the last eight contests going back to the end of last season.
Offensively, South Florida tallied 15 shots, with nine of those shots on target. Noelle Sather, Gentiana Fetaj, and Sophia Cabral each recorded two shots on goal. The Bulls outshot the Paladins 15-7.
