USF Men’s Soccer Battles to Road Draw at Mercer

The Bulls and Bears played to a 1-1 draw, keeping USF’s unbeaten streak alive.

TAMPA, Fla., September 7, 2025 – The University of South Florida (2-0-4) and Mercer University (2-2-2) ended in a 1-1 draw at Betts Stadium on Sunday, with both teams scoring in the second half.
 
The first half was marked by an intense midfield battle, with neither team able to break the deadlock. The Bulls showed offensive intent with multiple attempts on goal, notably from Fabio Bozesan.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Bulls struck just 52 seconds into the second when João Belmudes netted his second goal of the season off a setup from Fabio Bozesan. USF controlled the match with a 17-5 shot advantage, but Mercer found an equalizer in the 90th minute to secure the draw.

UP NEXT
Looking ahead, the Bulls will host UAB on Sept. 12 in a 7 p.m. match at Corbett Stadium in Tampa, Florida. This will be the first conference match of the season for the Bulls.

USF Men's Soccer competed in the school's first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Since then, the oldest program on campus has built a winning tradition, claiming 14 conference championships and making 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to the Elite Eight.
