PHILADELPHIA (January 20, 2026) –
Carla Brito earned a spot in the University of South Florida women's basketball record book by surpassing 1,000 career points against Temple on Tuesday. The Bulls (12-8, 5-2 American) fell to the Owls (8-10, 2-4 American) 86-83.
Carla Brito surpassed the 1,000-career-point mark and became the 29th USF player to reach that milestone. She knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers en route to 20 points. She also had a game-high nine rebounds.
Fatou Diakite recorded a career-high 17 points, her seventh game in double figures. She added five rebounds.
L'or Mputu posted 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, her eighth game in double figures.
Katie Davidson tallied her 12th game in double figures with 11 points.
Stefanie Ingram dished out 10 assists, her third game with 10 or more.
How It Happened
Brito scored the game's first points with a 3-pointer. The 3-pointer put her over the 1,000-point mark for her career. She knocked down another 3-pointer to give USF an early 6-4 lead. The two sides battled throughout the first quarter, and the game was tied 16-16 after 10 minutes.
Diakite and Davidson combined for 12 of the next 15 points for the Bulls. USF held a 31-29 lead midway through the second quarter. South Florida went on a 10-4 run, including a buzzer-beater by Mputu. USF took a 41-35 lead into the break.
Mputu scored the first four points for the Bulls in the third quarter. Brito, Davidson, and Ingram each made a 3-pointer to give USF a 54-49 lead midway through the third quarter. After the media timeout, Diakite scored six straight points for USF. South Florida took a 66-61 lead into the fourth quarter.
It was a back-and-forth battle to start the fourth quarter. After coming out of a timeout, the Owls went on a 10-2 run and took a 75-71 lead. The Bulls fought back with a 7-4 run and took an 80-79 lead with three minutes left in regulation. Temple made three free throws down the stretch and took an 86-83 lead. The Bulls got a 3-point shot off, but it did not fall. The Owls went on to win 86-83.
Kayla Turner led the Owls with 23 points, while Saniyah Craig posted 22 points. Jaleesa Molina added 19 points, and Tristen Taylor chipped in with 16 points. As a team, Temple made 20 free throws, which proved to be the difference in the game.
