USF Women’s Basketball Battles Back from an 11-point Deficit to Win an Overtime Thriller against Charlotte

TAMPA, Fla. (January 27, 2026)Edyn Battle produced a game-high 21 points for the University of South Florida in Tuesday's game against Charlotte inside the Yuengling Center. South Florida erased an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter and sent the game to overtime. The Bulls (13-9, 6-3 American) beat the 49ers (9-12, 3-5 American) 66-60.
 
With 4:52 left in regulation, the Bulls trailed the 49ers 51-40. L'or Mputu got the Bulls going with a layup. After Katie Davidson made two clutch free throws, Battle drained a 3-pointer as South Florida cut the deficit to 51-47. The Bulls continued to fight back and made it a four-point game with 54 seconds left. Stefanie Ingram knocked down a clutch jumper to make it a two-point game with 39 seconds left. The Bulls made a huge defensive stop and forced a shot-clock violation. 
 
South Florida called a timeout to set up the game-tying opportunity. Head Coach Michele Woods-Baxter drew up the perfect play, and the Bulls executed it. Davidson inbounded the ball to Brito, who drove to the basket. Brito went up strong and made the jumper despite contact. Charlotte had a chance with 2.9 seconds left, but the South Florida defense did not allow the 49ers to get a shot off. The score was 53-53 heading into overtime. 
 
The Bulls started overtime on a 6-2 run, as Battle scored the first six points in overtime for USF. With the Bulls up 61-55, Mputu grabbed a huge offensive rebound and scored a layup that extended South Florida's lead to 63-55 with 54.2 seconds left in overtime. The offensive rebound was Mputu's 500th of her career. The Bulls made crucial free throws down the stretch to secure the 66-60 victory.
 
Battle finished with a game-high 21 points, her second game of the season with 20 or more points. She shot 6-for-10 from the field, 2-for-2 from 3-point range, and 7-for-8 at the free-throw line. She added three rebounds and two assists. Davidson scored in double digits for the 14th time this season with a 10-point effort. She added two rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot. Ingram led USF with eight rebounds and chipped nine points. She also produced a team-high four assists. Jelena Bulajic and Ingram tied for a game-high two steals.
 
Charlotte scored the game's first two points on free throws. The Bulls went on an 8-2 run, forcing the 49ers to call a timeout. Mputu led USF with four points during the run. The two sides battled the rest of the first, with the Bulls holding a 15-14 lead after 10 minutes.
 
Jelena Bulajic and Stefanie Ingram each scored three points as the Bulls outscored the 49ers 9-4, taking a 24-18 lead midway through the second. Charlotte closed the gap before halftime, but South Florida still held a 30-28 lead at the break.
 
The third quarter was a battle, as the 49ers outscored the Bulls 12-6 and took a 40-36 lead into the fourth. Charlotte opened the fourth with an 11-4 run and took a 51-40 lead with 4:52. However, the Bulls were resilient and sent the game to overtime.
 
Notables:
Edyn Battle finished with a game-high 21 points, her second game of the season with 20 or more points. It was her 13th game in double digits.
Katie Davidson finished the game with 10 points, her 14th game in double digits.
L'or Mputu recorded her 500th career rebound.
Stefanie Ingram tallied a team-high eight rebounds.
