TAMPA, Fla., January 4, 2025 – The University of South Florida men's basketball team battled UAB through 50 minutes of action before falling 109–106 in double overtime Sunday afternoon at the Yuengling Center.
The teams were tied 83–83 at the end of regulation and at 95–95 after the first overtime before UAB pulled ahead in the second extra period.
Wes Enis finished with an American Conference season-high of 36 points, via a program record and career-best 10 three-pointers after missing the previous two games.
Enis announced his return by knocking down a three-pointer to give the Bulls their first lead of the game and then followed with another three-pointer three minutes later, helping South Florida jump out to an early 12–7 advantage.
South Florida and UAB traded momentum throughout the opening half, with the Bulls carrying a 38–36 lead into the break following a back-and-forth first 20 minutes.
The Bulls led throughout the second half, at one point leading by as many as 11 points. South Florida maintained the lead into the final minute before UAB converted two free throws in the last minute to tie the game.Â
The two teams continued to trade baskets in the first overtime. Enis added to his program-record day with a tenth three-pointer in overtime, but UAB forced a second overtime with the score tied at 95-95.Â
In the second overtime, UAB found enough offense to gain the lead despite another late push from the Bulls, as they fell 109 to 106.Â
Note-A-Bulls:
- Historic Performance – Wes Enis scored a career-high 36 points, the most by an American Conference player in a single game this season.
- Program Record – Enis broke the USF single-game record with 10 three-pointers, becoming the first American Conference player this season to hit nine in a game.
- Back-and-Forth Battle – Neither team led by more than a few possessions across regulation and overtime as the Bulls and Blazers traded momentum throughout the night.
- Nelson Double-Double – Izaiyah Nelson recorded his tenth double-double of the season, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
- Omojafo Nearing 1500 – Josh Omojafo recorded 15 points, putting his career-total at 1,499.
