TAMPA, Fla. (February 3, 2026) – Experience, athleticism, and versatility highlight the University of South Florida softball team's outfield as the Bulls enter the 2026 season with what head coach
Ken Eriksen believes may be the deepest, most complete group on the field. With proven returners, dynamic newcomers, and multiple five-tool athletes, the outfield offers both stability and upside across all three positions.
"You've probably got the most experience across all the positions coming out into the outfield," Eriksen said.
Five-Tool Depth Across the Grass
South Florida's outfield is defined by players who can impact the game in every phase. From throwing and defense to speed and offensive production, the Bulls feature multiple five-tool athletes who can set the tone on both sides of the ball.
"If you talk about five-tool players," Eriksen said, "we've got them in the outfield."
Leading the group are veteran standouts
Alexa Galligani and
Olivia Elliott, two mainstays at the top of the lineup who have consistently delivered throughout their careers. Both have spent the majority of their time hitting in the first two spots in the order, combining on-base consistency, speed, and power while rarely leaving the lineup.
"Those two are on-base machines," Eriksen said. "They can move the ball around the field, hit for power, and are very consistent outfielders."
Galligani and Elliott also set the standard defensively, bringing leadership, toughness, and reliability to the field.
"They're always getting dirty and always making throws on the money," Eriksen said. "They're great athletes and great leaders on the field."
Sam Walz adds another dynamic element with her speed, while first-year player
Toryn Fulton impressed throughout the fall with her range, arm strength, and athleticism. One of the program's tallest outfielders, Fulton's ability to track balls and make strong throws has positioned her to make an immediate impact.
"She put on a show in the fall," Eriksen said. "I think you're going to see a lot of her this year."
Another first-year contributor,
Cali Chapman, brings a powerful bat, speed, and strong baserunning instincts, adding another offensive threat to the group.
Grace Chin, now in her second year, has made significant strides defensively, earning praise for her development and consistency in the outfield.
"I'm very excited about her," Eriksen said.
Grace Rawn returns after an impressive debut season that included a home run in her first career at-bat and strong defensive play. Following offseason shoulder surgery, Rawn continues to rehab well and is expected to be ready for Opening Day.
Freshman
Ava Galligani, Alexa's sister, adds depth and upside after showing she can compete at a high level during the Puerto Rico trip. Her offensive confidence and continued defensive development make her another reliable option in the outfield for the Bulls.
"She showed she can hit and play at this level," Eriksen said.
Outlook
With experience, depth, and athleticism across the group, South Florida's outfield enters the season as one of the most complete units on the roster. The Bulls' ability to rotate players, maintain consistency, and rely on multiple options provides flexibility and confidence as the season unfolds.
"We're not going to be at a loss if someone has to step up," Eriksen said. "I feel really good about the overall depth of our outfield. It's as deep as it's ever been."
As the Bulls prepare for the 2026 campaign, the outfield's five-tool talent, leadership, and depth will be key to shaping South Florida's success across the diamond.
