800 Program Wins! USF Women’s Basketball Concludes Regular Season with a 58-49 Victory at Tulane

Michele Woods-Baxter is the only active interim head coach in Division I men’s or women’s basketball to win 20+ games this season

New Orleans, La., March 7, 2026 – The South Florida women's basketball team (20-11; 13-5 American) earned its 800th win in program history with a 58-49 victory over Tulane (11-19; 6-12 American) on Saturday at Avron B. Fogelman Arena.
 
South Florida also secured its 13th 20-win season in program history. Michele Woods-Baxter is the only active interim head coach in Division I men's or women's basketball to win 20+ games this season. USF also has 12 seasons with 20 or more wins over the last 20 seasons, the most in the American Conference.
 
 
Katie Davidson led the Bulls with 21 points, four rebounds, and two blocks, recording her fifth 20+ point game of the season. L'or Mputu (10 points, season-high 14 rebounds) and Carla Brito (10 points, 12 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles. Brito tied her career-high with four steals.
 
How it Happened
Tulane opened the game with two free throws, but South Florida responded with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes. The Green Wave answered with a 7-0 run until Carla Brito grabbed an offensive rebound and converted an and-one. USF led 13-12 after the first period.
 
It was a back-and-forth battle in the second quarter with five lead changes. Raina Tomasicka scored five points in the quarter, but the Green Wave led 23-22 at halftime.
 
 
With Tulane up by four in the third quarter, USF went on an 8-0 run from the 5:49 to 4:33 mark before a Green Wave timeout. Tulane answered with 8-0 run and led 42-41 entering the final quarter.
 
After the Green Wave made the first two baskets of the fourth quarter, the Bulls closed the game on a 17-3 run. Tulane did not score from the 8:14 mark to 2:58 remaining, when Amira Mabry made a three-pointer to tie the game at 49-49. South Florida scored the final nine points to secure the victory.

Lockdown Defense – USF held Tulane to a 28.1% field goal percentage, the second straight game holding an opponent below 30%.
Back-and-Forth Battle – The game featured 17 lead changes and six ties.
South Florida's Potential Matchups in the American Conference Tournament – USF is the No. 3 seed in the American Conference Tournament and could face No. 6 UTSA, No. 7 Temple, or No. 10 Tulane. The Bulls own a 5-1 record against those teams this season.
