USF Women's Lacrosse Hosts Charlotte in Battle of Second-Year Programs

Bulls host 49ers in second matchup all-time vs. Charlotte

April 10, 2026

TAMPA, Fla., April 10, 2026 – The University of South Florida women's lacrosse team (8-4, 3-0 American) returns home to Corbett Stadium on Saturday to host Charlotte (6-6, 1-2 American) in American Conference action.

Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+. Saturday's game theme has been designated the Headstrong Game.

Setting the Stage
South Florida returns home after dropping an 8-14 decision at No. 7 Florida on Wednesday, its first road loss to a ranked opponent this season. Despite the result, the Bulls enter Saturday having won three consecutive American Conference games and riding the momentum of one of the program's most memorable victories.

USF's 9-8 double-overtime win over Liberty on April 2 — its most recent home game — featured a rain delay, a three-goal deficit, and a walk-off winner at the 2:03 mark of double overtime. The Bulls have outscored conference opponents by a combined 41-20 margin this season.

The Opponent
Charlotte enters Saturday looking to rebound after dropping back-to-back American Conference games, including a home loss to James Madison on April 4.

The 49ers won five consecutive games earlier this season and boast one of the most dangerous individual scorers in the conference in junior attacker Isa Torres, who surpassed 100 career goals during the regular season and ranks among the national leaders in goals and points per game.

Freshman Sophia Rakis has also emerged as a key contributor, combining with Torres and Katie Gorski to power a Charlotte attack that has scored 20 or more goals three times this season.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Ling anchors the other end, ranking among the national leaders in saves.

Game Theme: Headstrong
Saturday's game is USF Women's Lacrosse's Headstrong Game, honoring those fighting cancer and the organizations supporting them.

Players will wear different color ribbons, purple for pancreatic cancer, pink for breast cancer, and teal for ovarian cancer, each representing someone in the community who's been faced with cancer.

The team is honoring Denyele Fiacco — the mother of USF attacker Natalie Kelly (#18) — who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. The Fiacco family will be recognized with a pregame ceremony on the field.

At halftime, the Bulls will recognize Ayza Finstein as honorary team captain, alongside Friends of Jacqueline, and other local cancer support organizations in attendance.

Note-A-Bulls
  • Unbeaten in Conference – South Florida is 3-0 in American Conference play this season.
  • Home Sweet Home – The Bulls are 5-2 at Corbett Stadium this season, including wins over Brown, Mercer, JMU, and Liberty.
  • Series History – Saturday is just the second all-time meeting between South Florida and Charlotte, two programs both in their second year of competition. Charlotte won the first matchup, 17-16, on April 4, 2025, in Charlotte.

About USF Women's Lacrosse
Entering its second season, the University of South Florida women's lacrosse program builds on a historic inaugural year that quickly established the Bulls as a contender in the American Athletic Conference. South Florida opened its first-ever season on Feb. 7, 2025, with a 19–6 win over Kennesaw State, setting the State of Florida regular-season attendance record as 2,386 fans filled Corbett Stadium. The Bulls went on to finish the 2025 season with a 13–5 record and earned a place in the American Conference Championship in their inaugural season, ultimately finishing as the league's runner-up. South Florida also drew more than 10,000 total fans to Corbett Stadium during the season. USF named Mindy McCord, an eight-time conference coach of the year, as the program's first head coach in May 2022. McCord arrived in Tampa with 240 career wins and a proven record of building successful programs after launching and leading Jacksonville University's women's lacrosse team for its first 13 seasons. During her tenure at JU, she guided the Dolphins to 21 regular-season and conference tournament titles, eight NCAA Tournament appearances, and back-to-back Sweet Sixteen berths while developing 13 All-Americans, 81 all-conference selections, and 13 conference Player of the Year honorees. South Florida plays a fast-paced, high-scoring style influenced by the early 1990s Loyola Marymount men's basketball fast break. That approach ranked among the national leaders in shots, points per game, and scoring margin during McCord's tenure at Jacksonville and continues to shape the Bulls' offensive identity heading into year two.
