USF Softball Falls in a Pitchers’ Duel to ECU

The Bulls remain a game ahead in first place in the conference standings

GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 17, 2026) – The University of South Florida softball team returned to the diamond for an American Conference matchup against East Carolina on Friday. The Bulls (32-14, 14-5 American) fell to the Pirates (26-21, 10-9 American) 1-0. 
 
Anne Long was in the circle for the Bulls and threw her fifth straight complete game in conference play. She struck out one and scattered four hits. Alexa Galligani, DaNia Brooks, and Kiley Strott recorded the Bulls' hits. Olivia Elliott drew a walk, extending her streak of reaching base safely to 12 games. 
 
East Carolina's Gabby Fowler hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.
 
South Florida still holds a one-game lead in the American Conference standings, while North Texas and Wichita State are tied for second.
 
Up Next
The Bulls look to bounce back on Saturday, April 18, in game two of the series. South Florida and East Carolina are set to face off at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
