TAMPA, Fla. (April 3, 2026) – University of South Florida baseball drops Game 2 of the series against Memphis. The Bulls (23-8, 4-4 American) fell to the Tigers (10-19, 3-7 American) 7-4.
Six of Memphis' runs came in the first two innings. In the top of the first, Freddy Rodriguez hit a leadoff single and soon after stole second. Trae Cassidy hit an RBI single up the middle to score him. Shance Cox singled through the right side to advance Cassidy to second. Later in the inning, Michael Gupton would hit a three-run home run to left field. The Tigers would lead 4-0 to end the first.
The scoring continued in the top of the second for Memphis. Jack Little led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. He would later steal second and advance to third on a throwing error by Bulls catcher
Lance Trippel. Rodriguez would walk and steal second shortly after. Cassidy scored them both with an RBI single to left center. The Tigers' lead would be 6-0 to end the second.
The Bulls began to fight back in the bottom of the sixth.
Jevin Relaford led the inning off with a double and would advance to third later in the inning on a passed ball. He would score from a sacrifice fly hit by
Jake Kulikowski, as South Florida continues to lead the nation in sacrifice flies. The Bulls would trail 6-1 headed to the seventh.
After the seventh inning stretch, South Florida scored three more. Trippel led the inning off with a solo home run to left field.
Joey Brenczewski would single to right field, and
Jack Lutz doubled down to left field to advance him to third. Relaford doubled down the right field line to score both. The Memphis lead would be cut down to 6-4, headed to the eighth.
The last run for Memphis came across in the top of the eighth. Javon Hernandez hit a one-out single through the right side. He would soon steal second, third, and eventually score on a wild pitch. The Tigers led 7-4 at the end of the eighth, and the score would stay the same for the remainder of the game.
Landen Yorek started on the mound for South Florida. He threw 1.1 innings and recorded three strikeouts while giving six runs on four hits and a walk. He received his first loss of the season and is now 1-1.

Lance Trippel hit the Bulls' 10th home run of the season.
• This is the first game in which a Bull has hit a home run, and South Florida went on to lose the game.

• The all-time series in Tampa is 9-9, with the deciding game tomorrow.

The program continues to develop top-tier talent with 134 MLB Draft picks all-time, including three selections in 2025. Notable alumni include two-time MLB All-Star and 2018 first-round draft pick Shane McClanahan. Bulls have earned All-America honors 12 times and Freshman All-America recognition 19 times.
