Amelia Malkin recorded her first career goal in her Bulls debut

SPOKANE (August 12, 2026) –Amelia Malkin scored her first career goal, and her first goal in the green and gold, as the South Florida women's soccer team faced Gonzaga (1-0) on Wednesday night. Malkin scored the only goal for the Bulls (0-1) in the 5-1 loss.

The Bulldogs took an early advantage in the fifth minute after a play inside the box was reviewed for a potential handball. Following the review, Gonzaga was awarded a penalty kick, which they converted to take a 1-0 lead.

Gonzaga added to its advantage in the 11^th minute, extending the lead to 2-0. Just three minutes later, Amelia Severn put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0, curling a free kick into the corner of the net.

The Bulldogs scored again in the 17^th minute to take a 4-0 lead. The Bulls answered in the 32^nd minute when Amelia Malkin found the back of the net, to cut the deficit to 4-1. Gonzaga added one more goal before the half in the 40^th minute, taking a 5-1 advantage at the half.

Sophia Cabral and Malkin both tallied two shots on goal.

Gaby Rourke got the start in goal for the Bulls and recorded four saves.

Chris Brown enters his third season as USF head coach after a record-setting debut in 2024, leading the Bulls to 12 wins and coaching both the American Athletic Conference Midfielder and Goalkeeper of the Year. South Florida produced six all-conference players. He recorded the most wins in a debut season with 12 wins. Brown followed that success by guiding the Bulls to a 9-8-3 overall record and a trip to the American Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals in 2025, as South Florida earned a first-round tournament victory and secured three selections to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Watch List entering 2026. Brown spent 17 years as associate head coach (2007–2023), helping USF to three American Athletic Conference titles, eight NCAA appearances, and a 10-year streak of 10+ win seasons. He coached USF's first All-American, Evelyne Viens, now a Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist, and has developed multiple American Athletic Conference award winners.
