South Florida Men’s Soccer Falls to UAB in First Conference Match of Season
September 11, 2026 | Men's Soccer
The Bulls erase a two-goal second half deficit before falling in the final minute.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (September 11, 2026) – The University of South Florida men's soccer team fought back from a two-goal, second half deficit to level the match at two in the final minutes. Ultimately, the Blazers game-winner in the final minute handed the Bulls a 3-2 decision Friday night in the American Conference opener for both programs.
UAB broke through first, going ahead 1-0 on a 47th-minute penalty kick from Lucas Rizzo before Lucas Nordin doubled the lead in the 59th minute. Trailing 2-0 and playing a man down following a 77th-minute red card, South Florida refused to fold.
Tyler Richardson delivered the signature moment of the night, scoring twice in a span of just over six minutes to pull the Bulls level. Richardson buried a feed from Matheo Becerra in the 83rd minute, then calmly converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute for his first career multi-goal game, tying the score at 2-2.
UAB answered right back, as Tony Kim found the net less than a minute later to secure the 3-2 final for the Blazers.
South Florida out-shot UAB 12-9 for the match and generated a wave of second-half pressure that produced the comeback, a testament to the group's fight even after falling behind by two goals and playing down a man over the final 14 minutes. Goalkeeper Alexis Martin made two saves between the posts.
Note-A-Bulls:
- Tyler Richardson recorded his first career multi-goal game, scoring both South Florida goals — his first two tallies of the 2026 season — including the game-tying penalty kick in the 89th minute.
- Despite falling behind 2-0 and playing more than 13 minutes with a man down following a red card, the Bulls out-shot UAB 12-9 for the match, including a 10-8 edge in the second half.
