South Florida Men’s Soccer Set to Face UNC-Greensboro

The Bulls head to Greensboro, North Carolina, for their sixth match all-time vs. Spartans.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (September 13, 2026) – South Florida men's soccer travels to Greensboro, N.C., for a non-conference match against UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night. The Bulls (1-5-0, 0-1-0 American) are looking to get back in the win column against the Spartans (1-1-4, 0-0-0 SoCon), with first kick set for 7:00 p.m. ET at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
Setting the Stage
South Florida is coming off a 3-2 defeat at UAB in the team's American Conference opener. The Bulls rallied with two second half goals from Tyler Richardson to tie the game in the 89th minute, before conceding shortly after. The two goals from Richardson marked a new career-high for one match.
UNC Greensboro, meanwhile, opened the year unbeaten through five matches (1-0-4) before falling 1-0 on the road to then-No. 6 South Carolina on Friday, snapping a stretch that included a win over VCU and draws with West Virginia, San Francisco, Davidson and Dayton.
Series History
South Florida owns a 1-2-2 record against UNC Greensboro in a series that dates back to 1995. The Spartans won the programs' first-ever meeting, 1-0, in a neutral-site contest on September 22, 1995.
The teams then met in the third round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, also in Tampa, where the match ended in a 1-1 draw before USF advanced on penalty kicks. Last season, UNC Greensboro and USF played to another 1-1 draw at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg.

- South Florida is 1-2-2 all-time against UNC Greensboro, with their lone win coming at the Spartans.
- UNC Greensboro was unbeaten in its first five matches of the season before its first loss of the year at then-No. 6 South Carolina.
- The match concludes a two-game road trip for South Florida as the Bulls return home Sunday to host Tulsa at 7 p.m. ET and continue American Conference play.

About South Florida Men's Soccer
The oldest varsity athletic program at South Florida, men's soccer competed in the school's first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.
The Bulls have claimed 14 conference championships and made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to the Elite Eight. The program boasts 31 MLS draft picks, including two-time MLS Golden Boot winner Jeff Cunningham, 1994 World Cup Team USA star Roy Wegerle, and 2013 MLS Cup winner Dom Dwyer. Three men's soccer alumni and one coach have been inducted into the South Florida Athletics Hall of Fame: Fergus Hopper, Jeff Attinella, Jeff Cunningham & Dan Holcomb.
On Dec. 10, 2025, head coach George Kiefer was hired for his second tenure at South Florida. Kiefer previously led the Bulls from 2002-16, compiling one of the most successful stretches in program history as the Bulls went 162-86-51 (.627), earned four conference championships, and made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances. Under Kiefer, South Florida advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2008 and 2011. His six NCAA Tournament victories remain the most in program history, and his win total ranks second all-time among South Florida head coaches.
