The 2005-06 campaign will mark Scott Thompson’s third season with the USF program as the director of basketball operations.
Thompson’s behind-the-scenes duties prove invaluable to the success of the program and have him involved in a wide variety of tasks.
As the director of basketball operations, Thompson coordinates the day-to-day operations of the office. His responsibilities include video editing, film exchange, travel arrangements, on-campus recruiting visits, and monitoring class attendance. He is also the director of the increasingly successful Robert McCullum Basketball Camps.
Thompson spent four years working in various capacities with the University of Mississippi basketball program. He was on the graduate staff in 2002-03 and served as a host for prospective student-athletes on recruiting visits, supervised on-court workouts, managed equipment, hosted visiting team’s practice and game-day shoot-around, coordinated film exchange, handled the recruiting mail database, and video editing.
His work at Ole Miss also extended to academics where he monitored student-athletes’ study hall and class attendance while also organizing tutor sessions.
Thompson was a student assistant on the Ole Miss basketball staff for the 2001-02 campaign. He started working in the Rebel basketball office as a volunteer in the summer of 1998 and began working basketball camps the following year.
He has also worked the summer basketball camps at Duke University in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002.
Thompson is a 2002 graduate of Mississippi where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Ole Miss and was a member of the FCA Leadership Team.
A middle distance runner on Ole Miss’s nationally-ranked track and field team, Thompson earned four letters in cross country and three in track and field. He ran the 800, the 1,500 and was a member of the 4 x 400-meter relay team.
A talented athlete, Thompson earned 13 varsity letters at Biggersville High School in Corinth, Miss., including five in track and field, four in basketball, and four in baseball. The point guard directed Biggersville to the Mississippi Class A state title his junior season (1995-96) and was named to the all-state tournament team.
He was a four-time state track and field champion, winning Mississippi Class A state titles in the 1,600-meter run and in the pole vault as a junior and a senior.
Thompson was married in July of 2004 to the former Ashley Liles.
