Chris Murphy joined the University of South Florida as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2018. Murphy works primarily with both men’s and women’s soccer programs.
Murphy came to USF after a stint at the University of Tampa as a strength and conditioning coaching assistant under Director Justin Thiel. From 2017 to 2018 he was directly responsible for all aspects of strength and conditioning for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s basketball, and baseball’s pitching personnel. He assisted with softball, volleyball, beach volleyball, and women’s tennis.
Before Tampa, he spent a year as a strength and conditioning intern working with a variety of sports for USF under Head Strength and Conditioning coach Pat Moorer. He has also worked with EXOS, formerly Athlete’s Performance, as a Performance Specialist for the NFL players association and completed the EXOS Performance Specialist internship in Pensacola, Fla., in 2016.
Murphy’s soccer experience includes competing within NCAA Division 1 (Fairfield University) and NCAA Division 3 (Methodist University) from 2012-2014. Prior to that he played in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with Clearwater Chargers. Following his collegiate soccer career, he coached high school soccer in the Tampa area from 2015-2016.
Murphy earned his bachelors in health science and human performance in 2016 and his masters in exercise and nutrition sciences in 2018 from the University of Tampa. He holds a certificate in Workload and Injury in Team Sports from FC Barcelona's Innovation Hub. He is SCCC and CSCS certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), respectively. He also hold his performance specialist certification (XPS) through EXOS.
