Matt Poplawski

Matt Poplawski joined the USF Men’s Soccer staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2019 campaign. Prior to USF, Poplawski spent two seasons with the Wake Forest men’s soccer program as the volunteer assistant coach.

In his two seasons in Winston-Salem, he helped the Deacons to a combined 37-5-2 overall record. These two seasons included two ACC Atlantic Division Titles, one ACC Championship, and two NCAA Tournament berths as the No. 1 overall seed.

Poplawski was part of a staff which earned the United Soccer Coaches South Region Staff of the Year honors in 2017. He helped coach five All-Americans including MAC Hermann Trophy and Senior Class Award winner Jon Bakero and CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year winner Kevin Politz. Kevin and Jon made up two of the eleven Deacons to head to the MLS ranks since 2017. 

Prior to Wake Forest, Poplawski attended University of Pennsylvania where he was a two-sport varsity athlete. On the pitch, he was a two-time All-Ivy League honoree and two-year team captain. His freshman year, he earned All-League honors as he helped lead the team to a conference championship, reaching the NCAA Tournament before falling in PKs. He closed out his career as a first team All-Ivy honoree his senior season, finishing with four goals and an assist, as he was the only Quaker to start all 17 games. He also played basketball for two seasons, earning three starts in 17 appearances.

He was a four-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and he served as president during the 2016-17 academic year.

Poplawski - who holds a U.S. Soccer “D” Coaching License - graduated from Penn in 2017 with a Bachelors in Economics and a Minor in Psychology from the Wharton School of Business
