Tomas Cerda joined the USF men's soccer program prior to the 2019 season. He was a part of FGCU soccer from 2011 until July of 2018. Cerda played for head coach Bob Butehorn at FGCU before transitioning to a coaching role in 2013. In total, Cerda has been a part of six conference tournament championships and six regular season championship titles. 
Cerda worked with Nathan Ingham who currently plays professionally for FC Edmonton in the North American Soccer League. Ingham holds FGCU career records for best save percentage, goals against average and most shutouts. Cerda also worked with women’s goalkeeper Brittany Brown, who posted FGCU career records in shutouts, goals against average, saves, and wins.
During his time with FGCU women’s soccer, the Eagles made it to the second round of NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Under Butehorn, Cerda and the men’s team qualified to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for their first time in program history.
Cerda also coached at Stetson University for a short stint for the 2018 college soccer season. He helped Stetson reach their first Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament final in over eight years. Cerda's best goalkeeper made the all tournament team and Cerda is credited with improving the goalkeeper group tremendously in one season. 
Cerda has also worked with the MLS club Orlando City SC and coached the PDL team Lakeland Tropics where his goalkeepers had numerous team of the week honors. Besides goalkeepers, most noted players he has trained are Demarcus Beasley from the U.S. Men’s National Team and Heather O’Reilly from the U.S. Women’s National Team. Cerda has a bachelor’s degree in communication from FGCU.
