Michele Latimer enters her 16th year working with the University of South Florida. In her time at USF, Michele has held multiple positions and worked with a wide variety of sports, leading to her current role as the Assistant Director of Athletic Medicine and Director of Olympic Sports.
Michele’s primary sport responsibilities are softball and women’s golf with supervisory responsibility over several other sports. Prior to this, Michele spent time as the athletic trainer for the Men’s and Women’s soccer, Women’s Basketball, and Sailing programs. Additionally, she serves as the USF summer camp coordinator.
Internationally, Michele serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for the USA Softball Team. She most recently traveled with the team to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games. She is responsible for the healthcare oversight for the team during their travel to the Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan American Games, World Cups, Canada Cups, and Japan Cups. She also previously served as the Head Softball Athletic Trainer for the St. Petersburg College Softball program; providing game/practice medical coverage and implementing injury prevention throwing programs and shoulder maintenance programs.
Outside of softball, Michele has a breadth of experience working with women’s soccer. She provided care for the Guyana Women's National Soccer Team as the Head Athletic Trainer during their matches in the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) in 2010. Michele has also worked alongside Women's Professional Soccer players, serving as the sports medicine liaison for the Chicago Red Stars during the team's training trip to Tampa in the spring of 2010. She worked with the Florida Youth Soccer Association for its Florida State Cup Soccer Tournament in 2009 and with the Score at the Shore Tournament from 2008-10.
Latimer spent two years as a graduate assistant with USF from 2007-09, working with the women's soccer team. She earned her Master of Arts in Exercise Science in May, 2009. She continued to be involved with the USF Athletic Training Program after graduation and served as an Adjunct Professor where she developed curriculum for athletic training education. Prior to joining USF, Latimer graduated Summa Cum Laude from East Carolina University, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training.
Michele holds additional certifications in dry needling, corrective exercise, Graston, CPR and IV Therapy. She is a certified American Heart BLS (Basic Life Support) Instructor. She is a registered Florida Athletic Trainer, member of the Southeast Athletic Trainer's Association, Athletic Trainer's Association of Florida and National Athletic Trainer's Association. She was recently named 2023 College Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Athletic Trainers’ Association of Florida.
Latimer was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and grew up in Colorado Springs, CO and Crofton, MD. She is the daughter of Connie and Russ Latimer.
