Daniel Magnusson was named assistant coach for the USF volleyball program in February 2019. With the Bulls, Daniel will train attackers and blockers, handle all video breakdown, scout and game prep for opponents and assist with recruiting both internationally and nationally.
"I am very excited to join the USF volleyball staff and become a Bull," said Magnusson. "Courtney and the last coaching staff set a solid foundation and the future of the USF volleyball is very bright with a good group of rising talent paired with leadership from returning player."
Magnusson joins USF following two seasons at UNC Wilmington. He volunteered for both the indoor and beach volleyball programs in 2017 and was an assistant with the indoor program in 2018.
Prior to his stint at UNCW, Magnusson served as an assistant coach for Sweden’s Junior National team in 2017. He helped lead the team to a silver medal at the Northern European Volleyball u19 Championships in Kettering.
From 2014-17, he was the head coach of the Women’s A-Team for the Gislaved Volleybollklub, which competed in the Elite Series.
Magnusson has extensive experience with some of the best athletes in the United States and Europe, coaching with Bring It Promotions from 2012-2018. He had served as a European Global Challenge Head Coach from 2012-18. At the European Global Challenge, he coached the women’s u23 team from 2012-2017 and the Swedish delegation u17 team in 2018.
Before moving into the coaching ranks, Magnusson played professionally from 2002-07 with several clubs in his native Sweden. He finished his playing career in 2007 with KFUM Jönköping in the first division.
He graduated in 2004 from Sunnebogymnasiet in Ljungby, Sweden and later earned his masters at Linnaeus University in Växjö, Sweden, in 2010.
Head coach Courtney Draper on Magnusson:
"While Daniel is fairly new to the NCAA Volleyball scene, he has coached some of the best athletes in the United States and in Europe. While coaching with Bring It Promotions, he had the opportunity to put all star teams together that are made up of some of the best players in the United States, and take them to Europe to compete. He also was a Head Coach for seven seasons at the professional level in Sweden, and most recently was the Assistant Coach for the Swedish Junior National Team. Daniel will primarily train our attackers and blockers and is very good at film breakdown and game preparation."
