First BIG EAST Win Eludes Bulls

TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2005) ? The USF volleyball team dropped its fourth-straight BIG EAST match of the year, losing to West Virginia, 3-1 (30-22, 26-30, 30-23, 30-19), in the Bulls first conference homestand this season at The Corral.
Both the Bulls and the Mountaineers had their share of problems offensively in the match, with neither team hitting above .200. It was the misplays that hurt USF, as it committed 17 more errors than West Virginia, and the fact that the Mountaineers came up big when needed on the offensive side.
Five USF players tallied double-doubles in the match. Kelsi Andrew-Wasylik recorded her first-career double-double, notching 50 assists - a new career high - and 17 digs. Ashley Reavis posted a career-high 13 kills and netted 20 digs to register her second double-double all-time. Johari Williams led the team in kills with 14 and recorded 15 digs on the way to her seventh double-double. Kristina Fabris posted her fifth double-double of the year in a 11-kill, 12 dig effort, and senior Flavia Silveira notched her 13th career double-double with a 10-kill, 18-dig outing.
With the Mountaineers just taking the 1-0 lead in game one, USF got its offense going in game two. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 1-0 lead to start, but a 6-0 run by USF gave the Bulls the lead, in which they would never relinquish on the way to the 30-26 win. USF out-hit WVU .324 to .262 and took advantage of misplays, as the Mountaineers committed four more than the Bulls.
In the final two games, 10 Bull misplays combined with little offensive production allowed WVU to take both games and post the victory. In game three USF hit .111 compared to WVU's .161, and in game four the Mountaineers dominated the Bulls, hitting .375 to USF's .106.
The Bulls will look to post their first BIG EAST win of the year when they travel to Rutgers on Saturday and Villanova on Sunday. Match time on Saturday is at noon and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
