USF Volleyball Drops Home Opener, 3-0.

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 9, 2005) ? The USF volleyball team (0-4) dropped its home opener to Florida Atlantic, 3-0 (30-24, 31-29, 30-15), in the first match of the USF Best Western Invitational held at The Corral.
The Owls (7-0) put together a hitting percentage of .342 compared to the Bulls' .191 in the match. Although FAU outhit USF (0-4), the Bulls gave up 15 free points due to misplays.
Kristina Fabris, the 2004 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, paced the Bulls offensively, tallying 17 kills for a hitting percentage of .316. Fabris also contributed defensively, as she led the team in blocks with one block solo and three block assists. Ashley Reavis was two digs shy of notching her second career double-double, as she had a 10-kill, eight-dig outing.
Game one featured five lead changes and 12 tied scores. The Bulls kept it close for a while, but when FAU took a three-point lead, 18-15, the closest USF would cut the lead down to was two points before a 12-4 run by the Owls closed out the game.
In game two, the Bulls trailed the Owls 15-14 before going on 5-0 run to take a 19-15 lead. FAU tied the game up twice but the Bulls took a two point advantage, 29-27, before a 4-0 run gave the Owls the 31-29 win. USF outhit the Owls, .341 to .239, tallied more digs, 18 to 14, but FAU's Katie Arvidson scored three of the Owls' last five points to get the win for her team.
FAU went on a 10-4 run to open game three and never looked back, defeating the Bulls by 15 (30-15). After USF outhit the Owls in the second game, FAU came back strong, dominating the Bulls .548 to .121. The Bulls also tallied eight more errors in the game than the Owls.
USF will look to post its first win of the season when it takes on Appalachian State tonight at 7 p.m.
