USF's Kevon Neaves Called Up For National Team Duty

TAMPA, Fla. (Monday, January 30) ? University of South Florida midfielder Kevon Neaves has been called up by the Trinidad and Tobago Senior National Team in preparation for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany this summer. Neaves will report on Feb. 1 to train with the T&T National Team, which qualified for the tournament for the first time this past fall (November 16), defeating Bahrain, 1-0.

Comprised of 32 teams, the 18th tournament in the history of the FIFA World Cup will be held from June 9 ? July 9, 2006. The opening match between host country Germany and Costa Rica will be played in Munich, while the winner will be crowned after the Final in Berlin. The Semi-finals will be held in Dortmund and Munich, while the “consolation” match for third place will be played in Stuttgart. According to the official Match Schedule for the FIFA World Cup 2006, five matches will be played in eight of the twelve stadiums, while the four biggest venues (Berlin, Dortmund, Munich and Stuttgart) will host a sixth match. The Final Draw for the 2006 FIFA World Cup took place in Leipzig on December 9, 2005. The month-long tournament will be played in twelve towns and cities: Berlin, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hanover, Kaiserslautern, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart.

Neaves completed his first season with USF, compiling two goals and three assists for seven points to help guide the Bulls to their first berth in the NCAA Tournament since 2001. The USF midfielder scored the game-winning goal in USF's 3-0 win over Stetson (Nov. 18) during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He finished the 2005 season ranked third on the team in shots with 47. No stranger to international play, Neaves has been a member of the T&T U20 National Team and was named the 2005 Trinidad High School Player of the Year.
