No. 44 Bulls Up-Set Bid of No. 2 Gators Falls Short

Gainesville, Fla. (February 8, 2006) - Despite the USF women's tennis team (2-1) dropping a very hard-fought match to the No. 2 Florida Gators (3-0), 4-1, Wed. afternoon at the Ring Tennis Complex, senior Neyssa Etienne pulled off one of the biggest upsets in USF tennis history by defeating the No. 1 player in the county, Diana Srebrovic, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 at the top singles spot.
 
“The whole team fought to the bitter end,” said first year head coach Augustin Moreno. “It was a great win for Neyssa. It's a real accomplishment to beat the best female college player in the country.”
 
The Bulls only point on the afternoon came when senior Etienne upset top-ranked Srebrovic, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Srebrovic was the highest ranked opponent Etienne has defeated in her college career.
 
Trying to rally the Bulls after Etienne's win, junior Gabriela Duch was unable to hold off No. 63 Nina Suvak, dropping the match at the No. 4 singles spot, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
 
Action on courts two and three were stopped once the match was determined. USF's Courtney Vernon was trailing Alexis Gordon on two 7-6 (6), 5-4, while UF's Boglarka Berecz held a 3-6, 6-2, 4-3 advantage over USF's Liz Cruz on court three.

The USF women's tennis team returns home to play its fourth-straight florida school when they take on Florida Atlantic on Sun., February 19, 2006. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
