Tampa, FL (May 16, 2006) ? University of South Florida assistant women's basketball coach Amy Wright has resigned her position to pursue other career opportunities. Her resignation is effective May 29.
“We wish Amy the very best of luck in all of her future endeavors,” said USF head women's basketball coach Jose Fernandez. “With her wealth of knowledge and experience, she was a vital part of our success over the past three years.”
Wright, a native of Richmond, IN has the past three seasons with the Bulls. She was hired at USF as director of basketball operations in 2003 and was named assistant coach in January 2004. She helped the Bulls advance to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance this past season. USF would finish the year with a 19-12 record and a 9-7 slate in its first year in the BIG EAST Conference.
A 2002 graduate of the University of Arkansas, Wright was a four-year letter winner on the Razorbacks basketball team, and graduated as the school's career assist leader with 717 handouts. Following her time in Fayetteville, Wright played one season for the Detroit Shock of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
