TAMPA, Fla. (January 9, 2007) ? University of South Florida senior Shadisha Robinson earned a spot as one of the top 10 singles players nationally in the FILA/ITA NCAA Division I rankings released Tuesday. The women's tennis team as a whole received 1,951 points in the poll, ranking 33rd on the list of 75 teams nationally.
The Bulls landed a total of two members on the singles poll, as junior Courtney Vernon earned a ranking of 54th out of the 100 athletes listed.
On the doubles side, the tandem of Robinson and senior Gabriela Duch was ranked 22nd on the list of 50 teams.
The team ranking is the highest for the women's tennis team in over seven years. The Bulls began last year at 45th, and notched only two other appearances on the computer-based rankings, (73rd in 2003 and 71st in 2001) dating back to 2000.
The women will compete in one final tournament, the FIU Invitational, Jan. 19-21, before opening dual play Jan. 26 at No. 2 Florida.
