Bulls Lose To Boston, 3-1, In Speedline Championship Semifinals

TAMPA, Fla. (March 18, 2007) ? The University of South Florida softball team lost to Boston University, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in the championship semifinals of the Speedline Tournament at the USF Softball Field.

Kristen Gordon (8-3) relieved starter Courtney Mosch in the third inning and finished the game allowing two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts. Mosch pitched two and one-third innings, giving up one run and six hits.

BU starter Megan Currier (5-0) got the complete-game victory with five hits and two strikeouts. 

After the Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Bulls answered back and tied the score in the third. After a single and a double put runners on second and third, Tara Toscano grounded out to the shortstop, driving in the equalizer

With a swing of the bat, BU regained the lead in the fifth inning off a Chiya Louie home run. The Terriers struck again in the sixth when their leadoff batter got hit by a pitch and scored, 3-1.

USF (24-14) will return to action on Tuesday when it welcomes Rhode Island for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
