TAMPA, Fla. ? The University of South Florida softball team denied Indiana's seventh-inning rally and pulled out a 1-0 win over the Hoosiers Tuesday afternoon at the USF Spring Break Tournament in Tampa, Fla.
Named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll earlier in the day, Britta Giddens and Courtney Mosch teamed up to score the game's only run in the first inning.
With the bases loaded and one out, Mosch used a fielder's choice to drive home Giddens, who worked a walk to start the game.
The Bulls recorded three hits, all singles from sophomore shortstop Tara Toscano, and senior outfielders Aya Nakajima, and Kit Dunbar.
Junior pitcher, Cristi Ecks tossed the complete-game shutout for her second win of the year. She also struck out nine batters and only allowed four hits.
USF, on a seven-game win streak, improved to 16-8 on the season.
The Bulls will take on Boston University and Ball State on Wednesday at the USF Spring Break Tournament. Those games are slated for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the USF Softball Field in Tampa, Fla.
