TAMPA - The University of South Florida softball team (19-8) capped off another undefeated tournament performance and extended their win streak to 10 games with a 1-0 win over Ball State during play in the USF Spring Break Tournament.
The Bulls' only run came on a miscue by Ball State starting pitcher Elizabeth Milian, who uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Caitlin Schneider to come home with the games only run.
Kelly McCarver and JoJo Medina carried their hot sticks over from the from the Bulls' 15-hit, 7-2 win over Boston earlier in the day. Bulls' hitters recorded nine hits against the Cardinals, McCarver and Medina recorded two singles each.
On the day, both players were 5-for-8 at the plate, including McCarver career high three runs scored in the day's opener against Boston.
Courtney Mosch improved to 12-3 after working 5.1 innings and allowing just two hits. Junior pitcher Cristi Ecks recorded her third save of the season. She entered in the sixth and held Ball State hitless over 1.2 innings.
“Pitching gave us a chance to win in these last two games,” head Eriksen said. “Four pitchers go home with a win and that says a lot about this pitching staff and their work ethic.”
The Bulls will return to action as they host the USF Under Armour Showcase March 14-16 in Clearwater, Fla. USF will face Purdue on Friday at 4 p.m. to kick off the busy weekend.
