CLEARWATER ? Five runs in the seventh inning put the University of South Florida softball team, 6-3, over Jacksonville to remain undefeated in the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
Down, 3-1, and with senior Aya Nakajima on first, sophomore Melissa Rosas ripped a homerun down left field to tie the game for the Bulls.
Two singles later, and a JoJo Medina intentional walk loaded the bases to put the winning run on base. Pitcher Courtney Mosch stepped up to the plate and hit a single to third to advance the runners and bring Britta Giddens home.
Tara Toscano crossed home on an Alison Savarese single for the fourth run of the game. The Bulls brought in the final run when Dolphin pitcher, Beth Glasscock, walked Nakajima advancing all the bases.
Giddens led all batters going 1-3, and scoring two of the six runs for the Bulls.
Junior pitcher Cristi Ecks started on the mound for the Bulls and pitched five innings before Courtney Mosch came out of the bullpen to finish off the game.
Ecks delivered seven strikeouts against Jacksonville batters, while allowing four hits and only one run.
Mosch picked up the win for the Bulls and improved her season record to 10-3.
USF vs. USA
The Bulls dropped their exhibition game against the USA National Softball Team, 18-0, in their second game of the day at the Under Armour Invitational.
Three Bulls recorded hits against Team USA. Britta Giddens led off the first inning with a single to second baseman Lovieanne Jung. A batter later, Kit Dunbar stepped into the batter's box to give Jennie Finch her second infield hit of the frame slicing a shot to shortstop Natasha Watley.
Sophomore catcher Hillary Wolf added a hit for the Bulls on a single slam to right field.
Team USA participated in the Under Armour Invitational as part of their Bound 4 Beijing Tour en route to defend their gold at the 2008 Olympics.
USF will return to action Sunday when they face Penn State to conclude the first of two tournaments of the Under Armour Series being played in the Eddie C. Moore complex. The Bulls look to remain undefeated in the Under Armour Invitational when they take the field at 1:30 p.m.
