Seabrook, Scelzi Lead MTF at UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - - The University of South Florida men's track and field team traveled approximately 2500 miles to compete at Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invite in Los Angeles hosted by UCLA.
On day one of two that the Bulls will compete in over the weekend, a couple more BIG EAST qualifying marks were achieved.
Jordan Seabrook, a junior from Indianapolis, ran a 200-meter-dash time of 22.11 to earn a spot in the conference championships held in Philadelphia on May 2-4. Seabrook now has qualified for three events at the BIG EAST Outdoors including the 200m, 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. Seabrook becomes the fourth Bull to qualify in the 200m and is now tied with Mikese Morse (long jump, high jump, triple jump) for the team lead in conference meet qualifying events.
To add onto Seabrook's exceptional day, he finished the 110m hurdles event with his best time of the season by finishing in 14.71.
Last week at the Pepsi Florida Relays, junior Grant Scelzi had a pole vault of 14'9” to secure his spot at the BIG EAST meet. On Friday, Scelzi added a second event in the javelin with a throw of 55.97m (183'7”). With the toss, Scelzi set his season-best by over seven feet. By being the first student-athlete to qualify in the javelin, the Bulls now have reached qualifying marks in 14 different events.
With the addition of Seabrook in the 200m and Scelzi in the javelin, USF now has qualified in a total of 27 events.
Carlan Arthur took first place in the 800m Open by crossing the finish line at the front of the pack after 1:51.78. Arthur set his season-best time by two-hundredths of a second faster than his 1:51.80 time at last week's Pepsi Florida Relays.
Teammate Mikail Ebanks finished third in the same 800m race with a time of 1:53.13.
In the high jump, Brian Zipler hopped over the bar set at 2.01m (6'7”) to take second place for the open division.
The Bulls' success did not stop there. Also placing in the top 10 for the Bulls on Friday was Greg Fontus in the 100-meter-dash with a sixth place finishing time of 10.87 and D'Andre Ruff's ninth place showing in the 200-meter-dash by cutting the tape in 22.01.
“For the competition we had, we had a pretty good day today and competed real well,” said USF head coach Warren Bye.
